First Lady of the Journey

I'm in my mid-30's, and am an ordinary girl on a journey to help my husband grow a church that God is proud of and actively working at. This is a look (mostly by picture) into my mind and feelings on things that happen to me as a first lady, wife and mother.

Saturday August 19 - Monday August 21, 2006

This weekend, Rob and I were able to get away from the hustle and bustle of ministry and enjoy a relaxing time together up in northern NH. We spent the weekend at the Mt. Washington Bed & Breakfast. Surrounded by the White Mountains, the B & B sits on 5.5 acres located in the Mt. Washington & Androscoggin River Valley. The B & B is a Federal style farmhouse built in the mid 1800's by C.E. Philbrook and sits on a hill overlooking Reflection Pond and the river. To the south is the Presidential Range with Mt. Washington, Mt. Madison, and Mt. Adams.
FUN FACT: Mt. Washington's peak is 6288 feet.
We started our getaway with a stop at the outlet stores in North Conway. We arrived at the
B & B around 5:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon and was welcomed into our room by warm homemade brownies. After getting things setteled into our room, we drove around the town of Gorham and then picked up dinner to bring back to our room.
Sunday morning we had breakfast (homemade granola, eggs, bacon and toast...sticking to our Weight Watchers diet). Then headed off to hike the trails of the mountains to photograph just a few of the many waterfalls. In all we hiked over 2.5 miles up and down the steep hills. The drizzling rain slowed us down some, but I was still able to get a few good shots of the falls. We then headed back to the inn (greeted by white chocolate raspberry bars), and got ready for a nice romantic dinner at a nearby restaurant. After dinner we were given directions to a popular location for moose spottings. We were joined by several other vacationers who were also looking for just a glimpse of the large animals. Unfortunately we had no luck...maybe next time.
Monday morning, before heading back home, we headed back to the dining room for another hearty breakfast. This time diverting from our Weight Watchers and enjoying blueberry/lemon pancakes, bacon and homemade granola. Mary Ann is a wonderful cook and a great host. We were very thankful for the wonderful atmosphere she and her neice Stephanie provided. We look forward to the next time we can stay at the MWB&B.
As many of you may know, a pastor's salary doesn't usually allow for a weekend getaway as such. I want to thank the two special people in our lives who made this weekend possible for me and Rob. Below are pictures (proof) that we didn't spend the money on bills, but spent it on ourselves, which I must say I did enjoy much more. Thank you both! May God bless you as richly as you have blessed us...I know He will!
Enjoy the pictures!

We had the "Gold Finch Room" at the inn. It was small, but just perfect for the two of us! Posted by Picasa

The Presidential Mountains would've have been the view outside our window if it hadn't been for all the clouds. This was as good of a picture as I could get. Posted by Picasa

Breakfast in the mornings was great. Mary Ann had homemade granola and this day we enjoyed blueberry lemon pancakes with bacon.  Posted by Picasa

After a full day of hiking in the drizzling rain, we went back to the B & B and got ready for a romantic dinner. This is us in front of the fireplace in the inn. Posted by Picasa

After dinner, Rob and I went to a local hot spot for moose sightings. We drove around for about an hour, but had no luck spotting one. Maybe next time! Posted by Picasa

Thompson Brook had a small waterfall. We didn't feel the 1.5 mile round trip hike was worth it. Nonetheless, it was great exercise! Posted by Picasa
